The price of cleaning your air ducts varies from company to company. Some charge by the number of vents, others by how many rooms you have. There are some telltale signs that your air ducts need to be cleaned:

• Your vent covers may be collecting dust and debris
• The air filter in your furnace needs to be changed more frequently and is very dirty
• Unpleasant odors when you turn your furnace or AC on
• Mold and mildew smells or visible mold in and around your ductwork
• Insect and rodent droppings in your air ducts
• Vents are not blowing air as strongly as they should, so you notice weak airflow at the registers
• Heating and cooling costs are higher than the year before
• Unusual noises in the HVAC system. Your ductwork should not make a lot of noise

Cleaning your air ducts yourself is possible, but we do not recommend it. We never say never, but a real cleaning requires high pressure air lines, special attachments, whips and a negative air vacuum that most homeowners do not own. Knowledge of how your HVAC system works is also a must.
